end News /Opinion Office break-in A window was smashed by thieves intent on getting into the constriction office at the Port Roy- ale Estates development on Wal- lace Drive overnight Feb. 13-14, Central Saanich police said. A Cobra cordless phone along with the keys to a construction van left at the job site were taken. The van, containing about $2,000 worth of hand and power tools, was found in the Brentwood plaza parking lot about 4 a.m. Feb. 14. About $1,000 worth of damage was done to the van but the cordless telephone was found inside. Hot merchandise Police believe it took two men to Steal a gas barbecue from a home on Dignan Road in Brentwood Bay sometime between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 12. The Westbend barbecue is val- ued at $300 and police have no suspects. Slippery road ‘A 16-year-old Victoria woman lost control of the 1981 Toyota two-door she was driving north on the Pat Bay Highway near Martin- dale Road, about 6 a.m. Thursday after she slowed down because of road conditions, police said. But hitting the brakes apparently was the wrong course of action, as the wheels locked up and the car went off the road, sliding into a light standard.
