‘No-permit, no-limit parking returns fo one lot

more use — and fewer cars will congest residential streets.

Free daily parking with no time
limit has returned to one Town of
Sidney lot, council decided Feb.
12.

The decision to remove restric-
tions on the lot at Bevan Avenue
and Second Street was one of two
major recommendations approved
by council — the other a reduction
in the cost of a monthly parking
permit to $15 from $20.

The permits allow drivers to
park beyond the limits in designat-
ed lots. =

But other changes could follow
in an “‘ongoing process” of review,
said Ald. Herb Addison.

A committee of council and
staff discussed parking for three
and a half hours, and the decisions
“‘qidn’t come easily,” said Ald.

hopes business people who regu-
larly park downtown will stop

“We're trying to encourage
everywhere possible to get people
into the parking lots,” Sealey said.
The cost of a permit works out to
“Jess than a cup of coffee a day,”
she said.

The mayor said downtown wor-
kers should show “good cilizen-
ship”’ by not clogging up residen-
tial street-side parking.

Otherwise, ‘“‘something will
have to te done to move them
out,” Sealey said.
