No need to join, council says

Sidney council sees no reason to
become involved with the Greater
Victoria Festival Society.

“We have our own celebration
society here that represents our
interests in that area,’’ Mayor
Norma Sealey told council Jan. 22:

Celebrations Society, which puts
on Sidney Days on the Canada
Day long weekend, each summer.
It also sponsors Sidney’s Christ-

growing number of boats each

But the Greater Victoria society
thinks council should have an
alderman on its board of directors
to work on its core activities — the
Victoria Day. Parade, a decorated
boat parade, a May Queen compe-
tition, a Santa Claus parade, a
Christmas lighting competition
and its own Christmas sailpast.
