News TheReview Wednesday, January 31,1990 — Als Four-way ‘won’t solve’ intersection troubles The Central Saanich traffic safety committee said the Stellys Crossroad/Wallace Drive intersec- tion is one of the worst in the community for accidents — but rejected the idea a four-way stop would help. Responding to concerns of the Stelly’s Parent Auxiliary, the com- mittee said: “(A four-way stop) method of traffic control should not be used when pedestrian pro- tection is a prime concern in particular school children, nor as a speed control.” However, the accident record may warrant traffic control impro- vements at the intersection, the committee said in a report to council. Additional information has been requested from police and engi- neering departments, and other technical data is required for further consideration, the report said. The committee plans to review the matter again after receiving more information. Ald. Ed Hemblad, the traffic safety committee chairman, said he can’t give a time frame on when more information will be available but noted that upgrade work to Stellys Crossroad will be required soon.
