Town treasurer Paul’ Edgington
said last week the town doesn’t
have a legal-responsibility to_pay.
“Although it’s unfortunate, unless
there’s negligence Wwe’re not
responsible for it,” Edgington
said.

Edgington said homeowner
insurance policies used to cover
sewer and water back-ups. But
fewer and fewer policies do so
today.

“The town’s policy is that it’s
unfortunate and we sympathize
with the family, but. we won’t
make restitution.”

That*s not good enough for
Paulson. He thinks his taxes
should protect him from damages
that arise out of a town line being
plugged.

Paulson said: “The blockage
was On town property. I just hap-
pened to be the path of least
resistance.”

His son Dennis was sleeping in
Dec. 2 in his basement bedroom,
after working late the night before.
He heard what he thought was a
running toilet, and climbed out of

In the bathroom, the level was
