‘THE REVIEW Wednesday, November 25, 1970 Celebration of the 60th birthday of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Sidney, will be marked by a special service of Evensong at 7,30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29, the eve of St. Andrew’s Day followed by a reception in the church ‘hall. General G. R. Pearkes and Mrs. Pearkes, Mayor Stanley Dear and Mrs. Dear and many old-time Church workers have promised to attend and share their memories with the present generation. When built in 1910, St. Andrew’ s was an offshoot of Holy Trinity ‘Church, Patricia Bay, a part of North-South parish which. then included St. Stephen’s Church. The parishes were separated in 1912. ‘St. Andrew’s was built by Court Edgar Brethour on land given by John Brethour. The first wedding solemnized on October 5, 1910, - was. of. Georgina Rose Emma Brethour and George Earl Boughton: Mrs. Alfred Critchley f Sidney Ci wren was the first organist and con- tinued to officiate for 20 years. In 1967 the church was greatly enlarged as a Centennial project, and two years later a new East window was installed and the new church hall was completed. The rectory was built in 1959. Eleven clergy have served the church since its inception. The Rev. J. W. Flinton was .in- cumbent for the first two years and his’ son still lives in the parish. Terry Mcliville, the son of the Rev. Roy. Mclville, rector. from 1946 to 1958, and his family are still active members. It is hoped that the Rev. J. Lancaster, his mother, and, Mrs.. T..M. Hughes, whose husband was incumbent for 14 years, will also be present; as well.as many members of. the. families. The Rev. Robert A. Sansom was inducted this year in suc- cession to Canon F. C.
