regattas of an international
flavor. The initials stand for
Pacific International Yachting

Association. Their system of
classifying yachts into. four
categories of seaworthiness and
safety is generally accepted by
yacht clubs in this area. A red St.
Georges cross on a white pennant
is their burgee which we feature
in our heading this week.

Boat buliding is by no means
limited to the shipyards of this

wooden sloop was built by Bent
Jesperson in a garage on 5th

McTavish Road. It seems to take
about two years to complete a
project like this but the end result
is worth every minute of it. John
Guzwell of Trekka fame once was

great deal of space to boats and
skippers and has rather
neglected the very. necessary
factor of crew. There are a
number of vessels that race
short-handed in these waters or
not at all due to a shortage of
bodies to handle the lines. Also
there are many would-be sailors
who do not own boats as yet.
Some form of crew roster to
bring these two together would be
a great asset to the sailing fleet.

Sunday’s race saw winds
ranging from 5 to 15 knots with a
moderate tidal current at the
Sidney channel © buoy. A
newcomer to the fleet was Don
Evans’ sloop rigged H28 ‘IF’.
There are now three boats of this
