Activity Centre Support Asked Of N. Saanich A letter: from the Senior Citizens. Building Fund Com- mittee requesting the ‘‘support’’ of North Saanich Council for their proposed. Activity Centre has been ‘referred by. council to committee of: the whole for ‘discussion. Mayor J.B..Cumming referred to. the proposed centre as an “excellent plan’’ but felt that the letter requesting support was ambiguous. The feeling of most members of council was that it was not clear whether moral or financial support. was being requested. Alderman Nell Horth, speaking in. favor of both. moral and financial support, cited council to the Queen Alexandra: Solarium andthe Pearkes Arena as precedents for this type of expenditure:. After -some . investigation, Alderman Horth had determined that “31 North Saanich. senior citizens’’. were using. present facilities and that, with improved transportation, many more could be expected to participate. Mayor J.B. Cumming questioned whether support: of such a facility - serving only a part of the Municipal population - was a-responsibility of the tax- “payers. He suggested it: was not. Alderman. Davis suggested the Centre might merit consideration as a Centennial project.
