It is one of our older established boating groups on this Island and is best known for hosting the entire Pacific Nor- thwest, Canada and the States, at it’s annual Labour Day regatta. Spring cleaning is a. strange topic for a sailor’s column but to a boat owner this is translated as winter lay up. A word of caution to those who are fortunate enough to have an old vessel complete with log books and_ possibly registration papers. Don’t toss. them out in the clean up as of no further use. They might be of- considerable historical value. A properly kept log, no matter how small the vessel, is accepted as a legal document. This writer is presently engaged in’ tracing back an old ship and missed the _ chance of getting. papers dating back to the beginning of the century by a few months. If you really want to get rid of old ships - documents offer them = to the Maritime Museum in Victoria. The Curator told me that he is particularly interested in pic- tures. or -hardware of. sealing, whaling and fishing in B.C.; Even present day photographs of fish boats are required as these will _ become the museum displays of future years. Taking exception to = an editorial in The Review last week which was critical of Sidney Council’s rejection of an ap- plication for establishment of a $1,500,000 mobile homes ‘‘estate”’ in the southern part of the town, Mayor Stanley Dear issued a rebuttal at a council meeting Monday. The rebuttal, in turn, brought objection from Ald. Herb. Perry who said ‘I heartily disagree” with the Mayor’s interpretation of a Capital Region Board letter referred to in the editorial. Text of the Mayor’s statement follows: “The. editorial. ‘‘Lost. But it is not true, at-least not in - the way that the editorial implies, that “‘it had earned the approval of the Regional: Planning Authority’’. ‘The letter from the Regional A rise in Saanich water rates, effective in January is described _as ‘‘minimal’’ where the average homeowner is concerned. The recommendation was iomes Ec public hearing, there is no point in calling one.
