have zoomed into first place in
Canada’s import car list.

all kinds of city and rural roads in and around

recently that an Order-in-Council
had been passed bringing into
effect. the requirement for

motor vehicles manufactured on
and after January 1, 1971 which
are offered for sale in British
Columbia.

Mr. Peterson said that all
vehicles covered by the Order-in-
Council must be equipped with
devices to contro) crank case,
exhaust and evaporative
emissions on gasoline powered
motor vehicles. The regulation
also provides for opacity
limitations in the exhaust
systems of diesel powered heavy
duty vehicles. Vehicles which are
»not requiced to be licensed under
the Motor-Vehicle Act, generaliy

many of these unhealthy air
situations are aggravated by
congested traffic problems.
Cities on the West Coast are
vulnerable due to atmospheric
conditions which result in. the
inversion of air currents, these in
turn work to delay the disper-
sion of motor vehicle. air
pollutants.
