; School. Wednesday, September 23, SAANICH PENINSULA AND GULF ISLANDS REVIEW PAGE ELEVEN TS BY NORMA SEALEY A good crowd. of parents was present. at Sidney School. on Monday night for their first meeting of the school year. They were there to meet - their. - children’s. new teachers, and to gain. an insight into the educational program at Sindey School.. Following the meeting Mrs. B. Lassfolk, principal, spoke on the topic, Parent In- volvement in the Changing She outlined drastic changes in the curriculum over the past five years, and the necessity to adopt new attitudes to meet the challenge of this change. Con- sideration is even being given to holding workshops for parents in order to familiarize them. with the new concept. Mrs. Lassfolk pointed out that education. is being questioned, and therefore must be responsive to. changing needs and aspirations of our nation and its citizens, whose Beautiful Sea View All Senior Citizens are invited to attend a final meeting in Sanscha Hall, Thursday, Sept. 24 at 2:30 P.M. to discuss suites in a condominium on Sidney Ave. between Second and Third Streets. 3-bachelor suites $12, 900 - $13,900; 3 - 1 Bdrm. suites $13,900 - $14,900; 16 - 2 Bdrm. Learning takes place inthe TOTAL environment, and children’s values, attitudes. and habits, are generally for- mulated before reaching school. Parents should be. involved with the school and should be in partnership with the teacher for the sake of the child. Several methods of involvement were suggested, such. as voluntary teacher aides, library assistants, reading assistance volunteers: keeping in touch with the school through conferences, etc. or (the best method) by creating the correct atmosphere in the home. and creating an atmosphere conducive to learning. a Mrs. Lassfolk finished her talk with a word to both teachers and parents: “It is when a child is most unloveable, that he: most needs love!” Silver Threads Thursday, Sept. 24, Don ‘Gray Concert, Tuesday, Sept. 29, noon, .
