Meanwhile fund raising campaigns are expected to start in September for both the Centennial ‘71 pool project and the Saanich Peninsula Athletic and Recreational Association skating and curling rink. J.E. Callard, Sidney chairman of the Centennial committee said that school children will. take. home leaflets on. the swimming poo} plan and there will be a door- to-door fund-raising campaign. Present plans call for a. $75,000 outdoor, heated 25-metre pool. Sidney Council has offered two possible sites. S.P.A.R.A: is considering the lease of three acres of land near Victoria International Airport for an 85 ft. by 185 ft. skating rink and four sheets of ice for curling. The building is expected to cost between $200,000 and $300,000 -and future plans call for inclusion of a swimming pool. Sidney Rotary Club has earmarked $10,000° towards the S.P.A.R.A. proposal with an additional $500 for promotional expenses. Sidney Kinsmen Club has set aside $2,245 in a trust fund for a community project. In making the announcement this week, president Gary Pearson said that the money will go towards the Centennial '71 pool project or the Saanich Peninsula Agricultural and Recreational Association ice-rink complex. “ “The money is in trust for whichever group gets off the ground first,’’. stated Pearson. Part of the fund came from All-Sidney Day last year but $1,445 was raised at this year's : Dominion Day celebration. a This July, the additional draw of a beer- ne garden plus a park entrance fee accounted for the increase in receipts. Treasurer Tim Ackerman paid off the last bill this week and the 27-member club was able to determine the . financial picture. Kinsmen were assisted on All-Sidney Day by the Lions Club, Torquemasters and St. John’s Ambulance group and Gary Pearson re-iterated his thanks to all helpers. “We will still work towards raising money for the community project,” he said, ex- plaining that Kinsmen plan a fall and spring Old Customs House | Core Of Development BY BERT GREEN 7 Sidney and North Saanich Chamber of Com- merce has prepared sketch plans to facilitate the ‘movement of traffic at the foot of Beacon Ave., and improve the appearance of the waterfront at the approach to the wharf.
