One reason for the petition was that tradesmen dnd others are apparently incredulous that there should be a street named Fred. After Comptroller-Treasurer’ John Tribe had informed council that to his recollection council had never changed a_ street name, Alderman Foster Isher- wood said that council should set a policy, because in other cases the incidential costs could be much greater than. the $90 estimated in this instance. “T believe the person after whom Fred Street was named still lives. in the. area,’’ ‘said Alderman. William Campbell, who voted against Alderman William Noel’s motion to rename the street. ‘“‘We have a Borden Street in the area, and I think that is enough,” said Alderman Noel. Summer Job Program Lets A department of Indian Affairs summer employmemnt program has provided 16 B.C. Indian university students with jobs so far this year under the program. . The aim of the program, which began last year, is to provide Indian university and college students. with an opportunity to get the training and experience they would need for a. possible full-time: career with the government, in jobs that enable , them to work with Indian bands in B.C. and the Yukon. The summer program is part of a -broader departmental recruitment and development “program for Indian and Eskimo. people which was established in -1968.
