Customs officials who super-
vise the single extension on the
north side of the wharf, have as
many as 30 boats a day to process
and tell travellers to move on as
quickly as possible. But there is
no wharfinger employed at
present to supervise boats using
other jetties or to collect the two-
cents-per-foot-per-day moorage
fee. Department of Transport
officials say that it hopes to
appoint a supervisor soon.

Meanwhile there are some
boats tied two abreast, one boat
moored with a ‘“‘for sale’’ sign
and another ‘whose skipper
frankly admitted he had been in
the same berth for two months.
Asked by ‘‘The Review’ if he felt
this was a fair arrangement, he
admitted it was ‘‘kind of tough on

R.C.A.F. Squadron ..676. Air
Cadets are making a name for
themselves musically. -The © 15-
member band has been invited to
play for the arrival of passenger
ships in Victoria and recently
placed fourth ina provincial band
festival,

Lt. Rudolph Ohm from Austria
is the bandmaster and has been
with the drum and bugle mar-
ching band for one year. With all
15 members signing up for
another year's work, Lt. Ohm
hopes to enlarge’ the group and
train more beginners.

A campaign for funds is being
launched in order to obtain six
Stainless steel drums...a new
mace and a leopardskin for the
bass drummer.

Started 10 vears ago..the band
is using equipment which needs
renewing.

A popular sight at Sidney

encourage more participation by
local recruits, further donations
