Mount Newton Junior Secondary School awards day this June. The Grade 10 student received six out of a possible total of 10 awards. Birdena’s trophies include a large silver cup, a_ silver spoon, a pearl encrusted silver brooch, a gold. watch, an engraved pen and several certificates. As president of the Student Council, the popular teenager was given an award for liaison. between staff and students; she achieved the highest aggregate marks on_ sports day and received the Mt. Newton sportsmanship award for. girls. - Proficient in. academic subjects, Birdena was one of five Grade 10 students to win recognition for a high ‘‘B” average, and was one of two students to achieve highest marks ‘in her. grade, The. Jim, Creed. Memorial Award was awarded to the two students with best achievement records and was won by Birdena Bowditch and Chris. Me¢Muldroch. Both students received a gold watch. The daughter. of Mr. and Mrs. William Bowditch, 7937 East Saanich Road. Birdena has many hobbies’ including an interest in the 4-H Goat Club, of which she is \an honorary member.
