SECOND CLASS MAIL REGISTRATION NUMBER 0128 Display advertising rates on application, Wednesday, June 17, 1970 Wise Planning By any standard of. comparison, the physical gr owth of Sidney during the past few. years has been phenomenal. At a time when the business barometer has hardly been encouraging, new. commercial professional services have been added, and no less remarkable is the rapid expansion of the residential _ areas to the north and south of the town. Viewing the town as a whole, it must be obvious to the most casual observer that vacant land will secon be ata premium. If one were asked to name Sidney’s most impelling need of the moment the answer must surely be . wise and constructive planning. . Sidney: in the past has relied heavily on the advice of. ‘the regional professional planners. Council has also appointed a long-range planning committee composed of council members. and (responsible citizens representing a cross- section of the community. This committee in its advisory capacity has useful - duties to perform, therefore it is regrettable that council -atits last meeting chose to make an important planning decision without first taking. advantage of the long- = range planning committee’s recommendations., There may. be good and sufficient reasons for council’ Ss > decision. ‘to: reject the application of Albert Yuen for further rezoning of land adjacent to the apartments he has already constructed.
