situated directly south of Sanscha
playing fields. Sanscha had
erected a backstop and the Town
of Sidney had graded the field
and cut the grass, but there ‘still
remained a good deal of raking to
be done.

The first workers began
arriving. at 6 p.m., and before
long there were about 25 rakes or
shovels being put to good use,
along with two wheelbarrows and
two mowing machines. This
energetic. group included
members from the three girls

“The Victoria Senior Womens
Softball League is now in full
swing, with the SIDNEY SWEET
HEARTS in third spot position in
the standings.

To date the ‘Hearts’? have
played four games and have won
two. Some of the star players on
the team ‘to watch are Janette
Hammer, the first. baseman who
is leading the team with power
hits; Lori Cameron, the pitcher,
who is a close second. Judy
Robbins the short-stop’ and

also gals to watch.

As this is the first year in the
past twelve that Sidney has had
any representation in the League,
the team is hoping to get more
local support at the games. They
play every Tuesday and Thurs-
‘day evening at 6:45 at the North
Saanich. High © School field,

playing field was raked, low spots
filled and high spots taken down
When this was completed the
area was rolled. When the job
was done there were hot dogs,
coffee and soft drinks ready and
waiting at Sanscha - compliments
of Sanscha Catering Committee.
The softball management
wishes to. thank all those who
came out and worked so hard and
cheerfully. Had it been left to half
a dozen people, it would have
been a long. ‘tiresome job, but
with this good sized group, it was
rather a fun thing.
The first league game on the
new field will have been played
by press time, but there will be
many more before: the season
ends..It is most gratifying to see
the number of older boys. and
men who are.coming out.to play.
This all began when the Torque
Masters Club formed a team and
challenged’ some of our - local
men. Now there are four teams -
the -Torque Masters, Sidney
Hotel, R.C.M.P., and a team
known as the Jokers. It is all good
fun. and exercise.
