PAGE EIGHT Wednesday, May 13, 1970 It's plain to see that the up- coming British Columbia Festival of Sports has everything in it but 4 the kitchen. sink.. One. can only “ wonder. how the organizers man- aged to: overlook ‘this item. of household plumbing. Any. production. that can drag in bathtubs. and outdoor privies in the name. of sports competition surely can find a place for the old kitchen sink. After 100 years of never quite making it on the sports scene, it’s high time someone took pity on the kitchen sink and allowed it to: make an actual appearance. Light Infantry (formerly the Queen's Own Rifles) marched 10 miles through the district ona battle efficiency test. Their carbines looked manacing but their ruddy, perspiring faces were friendly as they slogged from the Saanichton Experimental Farm out to McTavish Road. to West Saanich Road, to Heal's Rifle Range where welcome transportation back to Work Point Barracks was waiting. En route, each man was required to leap a simulated nine-foot ditch on McTavish Road. (‘’They wouldn't let.us dig the real thing.’’) And if he didn’t get over the marks at the side of the road, he was sent back to leap and leap again. At the end of the test, each man was required also to scramble over a six-foot wall. The troops are put through the test twice a year, and the 10-mile foray was preceeded several days earlier by a one-mile run. ny Mi May A iy 4) iat A Ne fe WW (i nas rt ea Peta visa Ta 7 te i we : au HN H “s i ‘raat, ante i yt gi roe bit in aya 1 may EE aah mm a gy pea ne ae Bsn) tight pe Sweet C Dap. “Poker Hands” are. a national pastime now.
