Wednesday, | April 8, 1970 Good News One of the most gratifying items of news in months is |. conveyed by. the recent statement of Alderman Hugh |. Hollingworth thata solution to the long-standing dispute between North Saanich and Sidney on the matter of fire protection is in sight. - The Department has a long and honorable history and _for decades was maintained purely by voluntary effort. In recent years it has become a legitimate charge on the tax roll, but since the incorporation of North Saanich the problems of dual responsibility have smouldered stubbornly and at times have flared into outspoken acrimony. — . To say that. the morale of the force has been 7 threatened would be no exaggeration, but it is a matter _. of proud record that the volunteer firemen of the joint ‘department have never faltered in their duties while the -. respective councils: have thrust and parried in constant -. dispute. > In these days of coldy calculated remuneration for the. - slightest services rendered, we are profoundly grateful for the volunteers who respond instantly at the sound of ‘the alarm, always at the expense of | time and effort and frequently at hazard.’ The: hoped for. announceinert that the. differences io between the two controlling. councils have been satis-. oe factorily resolved wil! be received with the utmost relief. ‘and satisfaction, not least by the volunteers ‘who have ‘steered free of Political entanglements. . “Land Race. no one knows: to what extent. Mr, Williston noted: that. up. to the time of the new legislation the government had no control over use of such land, - y Now the B. Whatever .distance I have covered, it does not give me a _-right to halt. Forward! It is the attention given to the last steps before the summit which decides the value of all that went before.” In his Christmas. message, King George VI quoted, ‘‘I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year ‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the un- known’ and he said, ‘Put your uu Notic hand into the hand of God and that will be to you better than a light and safer than the known ways’ ”’ These quotations simply point up the fact that the quest is ever into the unknown. It is an. in- dividual quest, unending and essential because there is only enough “‘truth”’ in what we know - to beckon us ever onward to that awareness and understanding which is mankinds’ true heritage. Where ever we are is a good place to start from for many are called to this quest. Coen cE IES PARISH OF NORTH SAANICH ANGLICAN CHURCH OF CANADA ST.
