VANCOUVER (CP)- Natural
gas isn’t exactly hay, but it may
soon provide cattle feed.

An experiment to find a
technique of producing — protein
from natural gas has taken two
years of work by scientists at at
the British Columbia’ Research
Council.

Now, says head biologist Dr.
C.C. Walden, the technique has
reached the. commercial
development point.

He says. the council, an. in-
‘dependent non-profit: institution
that depends on. industrial con-
tracts to pay its bills, is trying to.
convince gas companies to build
a pilot plant to evaluate the
techniques.

“We have the assurance of.
partial commercial financing
agreements,”’ he says.

The tasteless white powder the
council has produced is 50 to 60
per cent protein and, if. com-
mercially manufactured, would
cost about 12 cents.a pound.” ~
