This is the word from David Anderson, Esquimatt-Saanich M.P., after investigating complaints of Sidney residents that jet training flights over the airport were too long and too loud. Mr. Anderson found that C.P. Air and Pacific Western Airlines had conducted training flights at the Patricia Bay airport regularly during September and October, but only a few flights during November and early December. Aircrait involved were Boeing 737 and DC-3. . Air Canada does aot use Pat Bay for any training flights, Mr. Anderson discovered, and the other two companies will try harder to be quieter. Engagement of an additional constable and a steno- grapher would add one-third to the patrolling capability of Central Saanich police force, said Police Chief F. L. Brownlee at a meeting of the municipal council on Monday. “We are not getting our money’s' worth out of the ‘per- sonnel while officers are sitting in the office typing out reports when they should be patrolling,” said the Chief. He. indicated. that the stenographer should be a mature | woman who would be sworn as a constable. For the stated reasons, plus salary increases, the Central Saanich. police department budget for 1970 is increased from $44,000 to $59,000. It was referred to the finance committee.
