EMERGENCY PROCEDURES FOR PATRIIA BAY HIGHWAY TRAVEL There may be times when it is absolutely necessary to stop your vehicle along the high- way. If an emergency forces you to the side of the road, protect yourself and your vehicle with these precautions: 1. Signal first. On a freeway with paved shoulders, pull off at traffic speed, then slow down. Where the shoulder is unpaved, signal a right turn and slow down before pulling off the roadway. 2. Stop as far from the traffic lanes as possible. If position seems risky, get out of the vehicle and move to a Safe place. However, your vehicle should not be stopped on the travelled portion of the highway. If conditions make it impractical to stop on the SCHOOL BOARD WILLING TO SHARE Cheerfully noting that its effect could: only be positive for the Peninsula School District, trustees Monday evening approved a resolution to the B.C. School Trustees Association agreeing with Proposed provincial legislation that could order sharing of industrial tax revenues between adjacent municipalities. Object of the legislation would be to divert tax revenue from industries employing large numbers of people to nearby districts providing services to those employees. In a letter to the board the BCSTA said while the proposed Rill does not make specific reference to school districts, “‘the government may consider such an exX- tension of the principle.” Trustees approved the resolution amid comments that districts without an in- dustrial tax base would support the legislation, while those rich in industrial taxes would be opposed. ieee ROY EDWARDS of Kuper Is PHOTO) 4 land, B.C. carved this 51 foot racing canoe in just 10 days. So when driving a car you have to expect overload delays of three hours or so at peak periods. But there are alternatives open to you. First, you might consider walking aboard. Have someone drop you off at the terminal passenger area. It’s a good way of ensuring that you catch the first available ferry. Or put your vehicle in the terminal pay-parking lot; but remember, this facility fills quickly during peak travel periods. Second, you might sail by bus. Pacific Stage Lines operate a regular scheduled service between Vancouver — Victoria, Vancouver— Nanaimo. They are first on, first off and first downtown with convenient stops enroute. Third, if you must take your car you might consider travelling in off-peak hours. The only really easy times to travel are late Saturday and early Sunday. Ferry passengers are reminded that the final sailing on each route will be as published in the current schedule folder.
