-y v Wednesday, November 29, 1972 THE REVIEW ’ Page 11. School Sewage Costly Problem Trustee Gordon Ewan’ and Trustee Trevor Davis agreed that they. are still “‘hostile’ to the proposal from Central Saanich municipality that School Board pay $26,000 to include Saanichton Elementary in the municipal sewer system. Early projections by the Saanich Peninsula . School District building department had placed a $12,000 to $15,000 price tag on a portable -sewage treatment plant to serve the school. “Our liability should extend no further than this”’ said Trustee Ewan. ‘Furthermore, residents of. Central Saanich will pay two mills for the sewer system each year and they should receive some benefit back from it: ? The price of the Saanichton connection is pushed up by the necessity for a force-main and about. half-a-mile of pipe to connect the school with . the nearest residential community. . Trustee John Pennington pointed out a loophole in the proposal which provides for a conference between Central Saanich municipality and School Board to reach agreement on the final figure. Further talks are expected to take place on the issue. SCHOLARSHIP FUND HONORS COL. BULL a memoria! bursary fund has been established by the. Boys’ Ciub of Greater Victoria to honor the late Col. R. O. Bull who died earlier this month. Victoria Police Chief J. F. Gregory made the armnouncement last week after donations sent by friends of Col. Bull prompted the formation of a fund. The. Ardmore resident was. instrumental in formation of the Boys’ Club which was originally formed as a meeting place for boys. - Under. Col... Bull’s organization, the club was. ex- panded to provide a program for school dropouts to complete their education, working part time ‘while studying. Another program is aimed. to terested in organized activities to take part in community affairs. J. W. Bayne of Roval Trust Co. has been named chairman of the memorial fund and committee members are Charles Mullins of Mullins Marine and George Gray of Goodwill Enterprises. WEEKEND SENTENCE FOR LOCAL FARMER An amendment to the Criminal Code adopted this year enables a prison sentence of under 90 days to be served on successive weekends if the presiding judge decides that certain factors dictate this arrangement. Last week, Keith Charles MaclIroy, 1895 John Rd. received a 14-day. sentence in | Sidney Police Court after being found guilty of impaired driving, which was his second offence of this nature and occurred while, his license was suspended. Because Macllroy. has..a number of cattle. including about 30 goats. in. his care -without outside help except on weekends, Judge D. G. Ashby ruled that. the: sentence will be served in seven successive weekends. Maclroy must report for work at the prison at. 8 a.m. Saturday & mornings and remain there until 8 p.m. Sunday night.
