Since their planting some weeks back the trees have been carefully nur- tured and watered every day, including the holiday weekend, by Esther Berry, an avid Sidney horticulturist. Sidney A meeting: organized. by: North “ By WENDY CALLANDER Two months ago the South Malahat 4H Builders Club was reorganized with the supervision of Mrs. H: Lane of 7116 Maber Rd. and Mrs. C. Knight. of 6442 Golledge. The club is: made up: from senior members from the South Malahat down who belong to 4H and have a 4H project. Our first meeting was held Tuesday March 28 at St. Mary’s Church on Cultra Avenue. Where the club held there elections and the following were elected. President: Richard: Mutrie, Vice President: Wayne Papaschuck; : Secretary. The clubs first events under the new supervision was | an Easter display at the Simpson Sears Mall. It consisted of Baby ducks, rabbits and chicks which went on display from April 2 - 8th. Mr. McKernan promotions manager of Simpson Sears wrote on behalf of the merchants | at Simpson Sears, saying that. it was very well received by the shoppers and they would like us to forward our work again next vear. The clubs second. event took place April .22 when we had 4H’ers from the Duncan district come down to stay the weekend. We went bowling on Saturday night then went out for supper at the Chinese Village afterwards with the builders club treating everyone. Next the Jaycee fair came into view where some of the members from the south Malahat Builders helped put the display of McDonalds Farm. up. The boys from the Builders Club hauled out the manure and kept the barns eview looking clean and fresh all the time. The future part of our agenda for this year is going to be very busy because we have plans for 4H members from’ Red Bluff California coming on a return trip to Victoria, Last summer we went on a trip down there and they showed us around there and this. year in return we. are showing them around Victoria. They plan to arrive up here July 4-8 with approximately 45 4H’ers and plans are under way on what we are going to be doing. July 23-30. we plan on going to Montana on another return -ex- change trip. There is not much new about it’ but — ap- proximately 45 4H’ers are needed to fill the bus and we are looking for forward to having fun.
