PAGE FOUR Wednesday, March 29, 1972 Regionalization Not Cheaper Administrative costs at the Regional Board level are being closely questioned this year, according to Mayor Stanley Dear. As budget time approaches, there are Peninsula-wide : rumblings from frustrated Aldermen who, while they do ~ not deny. the vale of some Regional Board services, have a suspicion that the costs of that organization might be getting out of control. It has by now been well established that, although services through the Regional Board that they could not afford individually, regionalization does not cut costs. To be sure, some aspects such as technical and planning. advice: which will affect the future of the _ District as a whole cannot be measured in dollars. The Town of Sidney, however, may save some money if it can work out a satisfactory method of administering _ the new sewer and treatment plant itself. Some of the - items budgeted by the Regional Board -- such as $200 for training “courses and conferences — ‘may be 7 superfluous. And, instead of a new. truck for sewer _ Maintenance, a municipal public works vehicle could ce perhaps: do. double duty. In short, the Town of. Sidney may not need - — and | certainly can ill afford — the kind of friils. proposed by fie the increasingly top-heavy Regional District. — ' Disappointing R eversal 3 School ‘Trustee Rubymay Parrott, in her motion. to ; open meetings of the School Board’s education com- mittee to the public, failed to strike a responsive chord. with the one Trustee who might | have been expected. to agree with her. vas Trevor Davis, Mayor of North Saanich and a ‘School .
