What is’ an ‘accessory after the fact’? ANSWER: Although American Law used by Perry Mason may be a little different, the definition of an accessory after the fact in Canadian Criminal. law is “One who knowing that a person has been a party to an offence, receives, comforts, or assists him for the purpose of enabling him to escape.” An example of this would be sheltering a person whom you know has robbed a bank or committed some other offence, and telling the police you didn’t know where he was. An accessory after the fact is liable to varying penalties, depending on the circumstances.
