SEWER CHARGES TO 'DOUE A new Sewer Service Charge By-law was carried to third reading at Monday’s meeting of Sidney Council - with final adoption Slated for February 28. Commenting on the new charges, Mayor Stan Dear said . that, in general, the sewer rates will be doubled with an average increase per tax- -payer of $18 per year. This “is only one-half. the - estimated cost per tax- -payer that had been suggested earlier, he Said, but went on to explain that only fifty percent of the annua] costs of the system are to be BLE’ raised through the sewer rental, with the balance added to the general mill rate. With Federal and Provincial grants toward the new sewer system, the: annual cost to the Town will -be $40,000. for retirement of the loan and an estimated $20,000 per year for eperation, the Mayor explained later, Council: gave much - con- sideration to the various:methods by which the system could be financed, he told the Review and this fifty-fifty split between sewer rental: and. mill rate seemed fairest. SPARA Launches Two-Stage Canvass aker The proposed re-zoning. of the Baker property failed-to find -a mover for adoption at Monday’s meeting of Sidney Council and was finally disposed of with a motion that ‘‘the Zoning Amendment be considered dead —and not be re-introduced.” This motion. was necessary, explained Mayor. Stan Dear, to -avoid. leaving the original re- zoning motion in limbo between third reading and adoption. if successful, the zoning change would have allowed construction of condominium-type buildings on the two and one-half acre site. - e-Zoning “Considered FIFTY ATTEND HEARING .
