AL Ye cae ER Ra eS vee TE ee Oe RRR le BE eat ale PORE OES oe : saeanat: Open Letter On Brentwood Land Debate Two Aldermen Comment It is our opinion that one paper (not the Review) has given one-sided reporting of the proposal to create a publicly owned combined warm water swimming beach and Senior Citizens activity centre at Brentwood Bay, through purchase of the Brownlee property. Therefore, we would appreciate the opportunity of presenting the following. ; There is a rising public opinion which says that in the long run, waterfront property should be publicly owned so that everyone may freely have access to the beaches and land along the waterfront. As elected representatives of. the. people we support and will fight for this principal. The public spirited action of three Central Saanich citizens in arranging the delay of the private sale of the Brownlee property presented a golden opportunity for the Municipality of ensuring that the public was not barred from this warm water beach and waterfront land for perhaps many years to come. . In addition to gaining public ownership of waterfront land this proposal has the additional and unique asset of the home _ which can be used immediately to meet the present urgent need for a Senior Citizens activity centre in Central Saanich. We regret that. the important long range and. forward looking aspects of the proposal have been somewhat lost sight of. We have complete confidence that the public will in the long run make the wise choice in their realization that the waterfront lands should belong to all of the people for the enjoyment of our generation and those to follow. Byford Clyde reported now almost completed the changeover of the banquet tables, replacing the awkward straight legs with strong supports. The catering committee is delighted well. spent.
