Sidney Rotary Club

Since its inception in August of 1946, the Sidney Rotary
Club has been a major force for good on the Saanich
Peninsula.

Contributions to Rest Haven Hospital, Sanscha, the
North and South Saanich Agricultural Society, the
Saanich Peninsula Agricultural and Recreational
Association; support of youth through scholarships, a
band, team sperts; service in time of emergency such as
that disaster that was the Black Ball ferry strike — the
list of facilities and programs supported by Rotary is too
‘long to itemize in full.

With a membership composed over the years by some
of our finest citizens, Sidney Rotary has established a.
record of service to their community, of which they may
justly be proud.

. Measured in dollars, it adds up to more than $50, 000.
To measure the countless hours of effort willingly given
‘to their fellows by these men (and their wives) is im-
possible.

Gentlemen, we congratulate you on your anniversary
and commend you for the job you have done over this
past quarter. century.

terested enough, we cannot have

Frontage roads and an underpass |
at Mills Rd. would solve all our
problems, The Highways Dept. is
not going to spend money if they
don't have to, but. if we stand up
for the rights of our Town (upon -
which they are infringing). they
will. have to. spend money... I
suggest that we are.the laughing
stock of the Highways Dept. and
that our Town Council, our MLA.
and ourselves included are
responsible, Have we. got. the
fortitude to say to the Highways
Dept. ‘Look we've goofed, We'd

Medical Association. Dr. G.K.

Shelbourne, writing in a booklet

published by the association,

described the sharing of a double

bed: as ‘the normal way of

dissipating the. worries, mutual

irritations and argufyings of an

average day which,”’ he said, “‘is,

and remains, natural, spon-

taneous and habitual.”

Well, now. Not the least of the
advantages of the double bed, as I

am pointing out in my booklet to
be called ‘‘Six Thousand Perils of
Shared Sleeping’, is that it
teaches co-operation, tolerance
and a Yogi-like patience, so vital
to a successful marriage.

The. habit. pattern, as my
British colleague has pointed out,
is extremely important. As early
as the honeymoon, life-long
psychological. advantages . may
be won or lost.

OUTSIDE POSITION
We have in our files, for
example, the case of Mr. A. who
was able to convince his bride
that, due to his sheltered’ up-
bringing, he was incapable of
sleeping anywhere but next to.a
wall. This, of course, put the lady
on what is known in our studies as
The Outside Position. For some
years Mrs. A. was thus in the first
line of. defence’ to: cope with
burglars, fire-alarms, diaper-
changes, thermostat-adjusting,
water-carrying, alarm-clock-
‘turning-off and similar insomnia-
inducing responsibilities.

fortunately halted by psychiatric
advice which put the A’s into twin
beds where, at last report, they

In rebuttal, Mrs. B. gave |

on several occasions had actually
munched apples, while her
husband writhed and groaned
beside her.

There. are, of course, more
subtle examples of natural,
spontaneous and. habitual per-
formances including the frequent
and remarkable cases of women
whose powers of imagination are
