designate more than one site, in order to be prepared for more than one eventuality. The following summerizes the advantages and disadvantages of each of the recommended sites: 1. CITY HALL - ADVANTAGES Under City control, central location, earthquake proof, wheelchair accessible, current phone system available if no power failure. With power failure due to declared emer gency existing system would have two lines available from the Hall, and one in the Parks and Recreation office. Radio available to public works crews unless there is power failure, when the Coordinator's or City Engineer's truck radios would be used. Close to Fire Dept., doctors’ offices, restaurants, grocery and drug stores, health unit, and highway to hospitals. All records immediately available, Council and staff familiar with facility, have keys for access etc. With advance arrangements, Leigh Square building (once it becomes City property) the Elks Hall, the Legion and the Masonic Hall would provide reasonable emergency accomodation for displaced persons, in addition to space available in City Hall. The emergency radio should be installed in a place where it is immediately available to the Coordinator. City Hall would ensure this. Emergency power for the radio would initially be provided by a car battery, and then by a portable generator from the Works Yard specially designated for that purpose . DISADVANTAGES Flooding or a toxic gas spill disaster at CPR could make this facility unavailable. 2. HYDE CREEK - ADVANTAGES Already set up, City owned facility with large open area available for emergency accomodation, close to George Pearkes School for more emergency accomodation, relatively close to doctors offices, some restaurants, grocery and drug stores, Fire Hall #2, and highway access. Has three emergency phone lines available, and an emergency generator installed as part of the building system. DISADVANTAGES Could be innundated in the event of flooding. Prevailing winds make it vulnerable in the event of any type of toxic gas spill at the CPR yards No access to City records. Isolated from radie to vnublic works crews, if no power failure, Coordinator's or City Engineer's truck radios would be used. Emergency radio tco far from Coordinator's present office. Building not earthquake proof. *COUNCIL*
