‘ THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C 0 [J i SEP 28 193) MEMO TO: Mayor and Council September 21, 1981 MEMO FROM: Planning and Zoning Committee SUBJECT: SHAUGHNESSY STREET CORRIDOR Report from the Planning and Zoning Committee meeting held September 16, 1981. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman J.J. Keryluk Alderman M.R. Wright Alderman M.D. Gates Alderman A.K. Muldoen Art Phillips, Acting City Planner Audrey Leonard, Recording Secretary The Planning and Zoning Committee were requested by Council, on September 14, 1981, to report on the Shaughnessy Street Corridor. The Committee offers the following report for Council consideration. The Shaughnessy Centre Plan was drafted by the Planning Department, in consultation with City Council, in 1971. While numerous changes in the City have occurred over the past ten years, the Plan has remained intact. The boundaries for the area are as follows: NORTH: KINGSWAY EAST: MARY HILL SOUTH: PITT RIVER ROAD (NORTH SIDE) WEST: REEVE Development within this area is to ocenur in four phases, with the majority. of residential lands fronting onto Shaughnessy being in phase three. While all forms of residential development in this area would de considered, the Planning and Zoning Committee would base their recommendation to Council on the Shaughnessy Centre Plan. There would appear to be some uncertainty as to what lands fall within the Shaughnessy Street Corridor, Some may consider only those properties fronting onto Shaughnessy, while others may examine lands within one block on either side. Whatever the boundaries, - Shaughnessy cannot be considered in isolation of neighbouring properties. In order to determine the land use plan for the Centre, all properties within the boundaries of Plan area must be evaluated. As mentioned by one member or Council, this can only occur in the context of a Community Plan. At such a time, community residents will have the opportunity for input and assist Council in determining the future for the area.
