-4- STREET CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP On Monday and Tucsday, (September 22 & 25, 1980) just prior to the B.C.P.W.A. Conference in Campbell River, there will be a 2-day workshop on Street cleaning and maintenance management. The Workshop will be at the Discovery Inn jin Campbel} River. The Workshop Instructors are provided by A.P.W.A. as part of their on-going educational programs, Applicants should pre-register for this event. Pre-registration forms and workshop information Will be mailed out to all A.P.W.A. and B.C.P.W.A. members about 7 to 8 weeks prior to the workshop. Our last workshop was a huge success with over 100 registrations and we hope that this Workshop will be a similar success. Plan now to attend and Stay a further three days for the Conference. A summary of the topics to be presented at this Workshop is as follows: First Day - Operation K.A.B, Clean Community System - A behavioral approach to waste handling and : littering. Strect Cleaning - Performance Criteria for sweeper selection, Street Cleaning Vohicle Routing: - with special referenco to "human routing", Pertinent portions of the mathematical theory Will be described, as well as "houristic" principles. Street Maintenance Techniques - Flexible Pavements An updating of practices and materials employed in flexible pavement maintenance & construction. Toxic Materials in Street Surface Contaminants - Particulates contributed directly and indirectly to roadways by traffic and land use activitios ropresent a serious source of water pollutants. Tho need for offeetive sweeping is emphasized to reduce the hazard, Second Day - Management. Maintenance Manapement by Objectives ~ Introduction to managing maintenance - from objectives to actions. Developing Works Programs - Determining maintenance needs and preparing long . range plans. Performance Budgeting Techniques - Realistic approaches to obtaining and allocating funds. Crow Scheduling - Principles of scheduling and crew scheduling procedures. Using Crew Schedules - Practical aspects of “working a schedule" and making schedule adjustments, seers Cont ld,
