THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM B.R. Kirk, November 17, 1989 City Administrator T.M. Chong, P. End., City Engineer SUBJECT: Crosswalks at Mary Hill Road and Wilson Avenue (Public Works Committee Meeting Nov. 15, 1989) Recommendations: 1. That crosswalks be established for the west, north and east legs of the Mary Hill/Wilson intersection. 2. That the City Clerk takes the necessary steps to amend the Traffic ..ylaw to reflect recommendation 1 if approved by Council. 3. That the estimated cost of $500 to paint the proposed crosswalks be funded from the savings on the Wellington Reconstruction Project. Background and Comments: The Old Age Pensioners' Organization has approached the City on several occasions requesting the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of Mary Hill Road and Wilson Avenue. The attached correspondence provides further details on this matter. During the most recent review of this request by the Public Works Committee its members still feel that it is doubtful that there are enough conflicts at this intersection to warrant signalization. The Committee does recognize though that there are several other intersections which should be seriously considered for signalization in 1990. Since the cost of signalization of an intersection is in the order of $55,000, it is likely that signalization will only be considered for those intersections which are highly congested. As an interim measure to afford more protection for pedestrians crossing the west, north and east legs of this intersection, the painting of additional cross-walks are recommended. T.M. Chong;-P. Eng. , city Engineer attachments (3) city Treasurer's Comments: I certify that funds are available as per recommendation 3 above.
