December 29th, 1989 To Whom it May Concern: I am writing this letter in response to a notice of public hearing regarding the proposed zoning amendment bylaw no. 2479. We are extremely upset about a number of issues involved with this project. Firstly, the timing is extremely unfair. Posted notice (in the form of a sign on the property in question) went up the week of December 22nd, on December 27th we visited the City Hall planning office and were told the public hearing wouldn't be until January 22nd, then we received notice December 29th of a public hearing January 8th! This whole process seems to be designed to push this change through and to force this apartment complex on us, with as little chance of opposition as possible. Four years ago we purchased this home after ensuring that the zoning was such that an apartment like that proposed for this property covld pet happen. If we had been given any indication that zonino bylaws in Port Coquitlam are virtually meaningless and a ten year old "plan" was all that people considered, we definitely would mot have moved to Port Coquitlam. Instead, we bought a new home, put thousands of dollars into landscaping and fencing, paid approximately $1,200.00 per year in taxes to Port Coquitlam - for what! Not only have there been no improvements in our area to reflect our paid taxes, but the value of our house, both in dollar value and in its value to our family, is about to drop in relation to other homes we could have purchased in its place four years ago. The proposed apartment is going to further crowd already crowded streets {have you tried getting onto Lougheed Highway during morning rush hour from Fraser and Flint Street, or making a ieft- hand turn onto Shaughnessy from Lougheed Highway in either morning or evening rush hours?), 24 units on property currently holding two homes, is going to mean 22 additional families in an area not prepared for them.
