2. Joint School/Park Sites Development. Council requested information as to the possible joint development of sports fields and other park facilities as suggested for the eastern most school site within the Riverwood area. This school is immediately adjacent to the largest park in the Riverwood area which includes the former sewage lagoons, which are intended to remain as a passive park, and a 5 acre parcel intended to be jointly developed with the School Board as an active park. This joint development has been the policy of Council from the outset. The Riverwood Area Control Plan indicates that "..since both neighborhood park sites are adjacent to designated school sites, the design and development of each school/park site should be conducted comperatively between the Coquitlam School Board and the City's Parks and Recreation Department". Policy statement 3.3 of the Riverwood Area Contrel Plan states that "The development and future use of the School Park site is to be undertaken jointly between the Coquitlam School Board and Park and Recreation Department of the City of Port Coquitlam in order to maximize the potential of each". I have discussed these policies with both Janna Taylor, Director of Parks and Recreation and Larry Wheeler, acting Director of Parks and Recreation who informed that the joint school/park development in the Riverwood area is still a desirable policy and the appropriate agreements will be negctiated with the School Board at the time when rezoning and actual development takes place. It is therefore appropiate that Council approve the recommendation in the report from June 2, 1993 from the Director of Planning. Bryan Kirk City Administrator CF/al ID636/31-32
