REPORT Mayor and Council June 13t 1975 L.D. Pollock ly , City Administrator | JU 16 Oli, Re: C.P. Rail Customer Service Center Council may recall that in 1973 we had details submitted from C.P.R. advising us that they planned to establish a Customer Service Center in Vancouver and discontinue the services of the local station agent. At that time Council expressed opposition to the move and we filed an objection . with the Railway Transport Committee. i had subsequent conversations with Mr. Hilling and representatives of the C.P.R. and I indicated to Council at that time that, in my view, it appeared that the establishment of the Customer Service Center would provide an increase in service. Council was still opposed to the move and it was suggested that the Building and Protection Committee and the Transportation Committee review the matter with a view to presenting a Brief to the Railway Transport Committee. To my knowledge, there was no formal Brief submitted, however, our letter of objection was filed with the Board. C.P.Rail have, apparently, not taken any further action on their application until now and the Canadian Transport Commission have now written us wishing to conclude the matter and advise that unless we can produce arguments of a more substantial nature, than we have already provided that they will assume we no longer oppose the application and will process C.P. Rail's application. We are, apparently, the last such station operation to be dealt with in the Province. . I have attached the information submitted to us by the Railwa, Transport Committee in support of C.P. Rail's application. Would Council therefore, consider this matter further and advise if they wish to continue to express opposition to the application. I note that C.P. Rail have offered to send representatives to discuss the matter with Council should further information be necessary. May we have your instructions please. a oe POLE L.D. Pollock
