Ses cS ELSPA eee DRAFT steele PIR che le March 23rd, 1972 The Honourable Cc, Shelford, Minister of Agriculture, Parliament Buildings, _Viectoria, B.C. Dear Sir: | Re: Environment and Land Use Act Public Hearing ~- Vednesday, April 12th, 1972 With reference to the Public Hearing being held on the above~noted date with respect to the possible alternative location to the proposed B.C, Hydro & Power Authority Arnott-Kidd No. 2 Transmission Line through the Nature Park of the Corporation of the Township of Richmond, British Columbia, we wish to advise that this City opposes the continued desecration of the natural landscape of our Province through the construction of electric power transmission lines that require the removal of large sections of natural growth. oo We, in our own municipality, are attempting to establish a Nature Park much along the lines of that in the Township of Richmond and we would oppose with utmost vigor any similar proposal of the B.C. Hydro & Power Authority in our area. Surely some alternative can be found to assist the Township of Richmond “tn the preservation of its Nature Park and would mention that it would appear point- . less for the Legislature to establish a $25,000,000.00 green belt protection fund to preserve natural areas in the Province when an agency of the Crown — 3. C. Hydro & Power Authority - is constantly in the process of destroying those nature Preserves that already exist, ; Yours very truly, L.B. Seott, Mayor.
