Directed by Tony Bill. Emory (Dudley Moore) is an advertising executive heading for a nervous breakdown. The prob- lem is his conscience; he’s tired of lying to the public. He tells his partner (Paul Reisner) that people want more than just glitz, they want honest advertising. So Emory designs a batch of ads that are brutally honest. His boss, Charles Drucker, nearly has a heart attack and orders him to - enter Bennington Sanitarium for a long rest. Or else! Meanwhile, Emory’s ads acci- dentally get printed. Expecting numerous libel suits, the agency is stunned to discover that people: actually like the-new ads. - Drucker immediately orders Emory back to work. Emory politely refuses; he rather likes it at Bennington, especially since mecting long-time inmate Kathy Burgess (Daryl Hannah). Drucker is furious and threatens - to cut off his insurance, so Emory proposes a compromise — with the help of his friends at Ben- nington, they'll! all pitch in and ‘work on the ads from there. It against Carface. An angel tells him that he can never return to heaven. The first order of business is to kidnap Anne Marie, a little orphan girl Carface has been holding hostage. Anne Marie is. special because she can talk to animals. With her help at the races, Charlie and Itchy soon have enough money to open their own gambling joint. Charlie’s plans begin to unravel when Carface discovers he’s still alive and Anne Marie runs away because Charlie -hasn’t kept his promise to find parents for her. She accuses him of being no betier than Carface. In a final showdown with Car- face, when Anne Marie’s life hangs in the balance, hard-hearted Charlie B, Parker risks every- thing. Even though there will be heli to pay! This is an excellent movie. Charlie is unforgettable! Health project fund created The provincial government has set up another fund for locally developed projects, $750,000 for "healthy munities” initiatives. Health Minister John Jansen was quoted in a press.telease last week as saying the fund is intended to com- . provide start-up money for ideas within a broad set of guidelines. Eligible projects would. include virtually anything that contributes: this time= to the good health of community residents, Jansen . cited bylaws against public tobacco smoking and local housing policies that promote healthy lifestyles as two examples. Local groups who have ideas can get further information from the ‘Ministry of Health’s’ Office of Health Promotion. .in Victoria at 356-7439. , . sounds crazy, but Drucker doesn’t. JW. have too much choice. Much to _. everyone’s surprise, the ads are _ an instant success. But Drucker is too greedy for - his own good, He begins schem- ing to rid himself of Emory; he doesn’t need him when he’s got a - group of crazy people who can do the same job and who will also work for peanuts. Charlie makes a beeline for his former gambling partner, Carface. But his old partner is anything but happy to see Chazlie alive and well. Business is good and Carface doesn’t want to share. So he stages a "fatal accident” and has Charlie killed. Charlie winds up in heaven. He's furious when he discovers he was murdered, and vows revenge.
