~ Sixth An nual a aa - Skeena Valley Fall Fair “sixth Annual Skeena Valley Fall Fair will be held at Lions’ Park . Saturday, September 4 during the Labour Day weekend. Organizers expect this shiow to be the best one to date and to continue the steady growth shown each year during the last five years. The Fair was originally started by the Terrace Women's. Institute who - plarined to hold a Flower Show in.1971. The Farmer's Institute persuaded them to also have classes for fruit and vegetables. The show - was planned for the old Community Centre, but when. it burned down two weeks before Fair time the location was moved to Clarence Michiel School. In-1972 the Skeena Valley Fairs Association was formed which took over the management of the Fair. - The Fair was held at Skeena “High School and included canning, baking and han- dicrafts that year. 1973 saw the Children's Pet Show included. for the -. first time and the Fair held at the Curling Club. “In 1974, the Fair moved to the Thornhill Community Centre and Lions Park - which will be its permanent home. The facilities there enabled us to begin holding a Livestock Show in addition to the other classes. This year’s Fair has classes for flowers, fruit and vegetables, home canning, ‘eggs, honey, home baking,. homemade wines, fancy work, handicrafts and photography. The Children's Section -will in- clude children’s baking, . conservation ‘and education and a children’s pet show. The Poultry and Waterfowl chickens, bantams, geese, ducks, pigeons, doves,- a display of birds. and: a children’s show. The Livestock Show will -have classes for goats, ‘ swine, rabbits, dairy cattle | and beef cattle. This year a. qualified goat. judge from Vancouver will do the judging of goats and several other, out of town judges will be in attendance. Program, books describing entry requirements with entry forms included are available at various stores in town or call Elsie Erickson at 635-3423.
