THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM IR. Zahynacz, P.Eng. DATE: January 19, 1994 City Engineer Anne T. Pynenburg PROJECT: No. 859 Project Technician SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR STOP SIGNS ON RALEIGH AT GORDON AVE. RECOMMENDATION: Tum down request to install stop signs on Raleigh St. at Gordon Ave. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: Attached is a request from a resident of 3176 Raleigh St. requesting that the Engineering Dept. install stop signs on Raleigh St. at Gordon Ave. Reason For Request The resident is concemed that vehicles are speeding north on Raieigh to access the Lougheed Highway eastbound. Existing Site Conditi There are presently stop signs on Gordon at Raleigh making Raleigh the through street. The greater volume of traffic is on Raleigh St. Comments This request was denied for the following reasons: 1) This intersection does not warrant a four-way stop since the daily 24hr totals are only approx. 250-300 vehicles, 2) Changing the location of the stop signs from Gordon to Raleigh would not follow warrant analysis and would cause confusion for local drives who are used to the present signage. 3) The resident is concerned with cars using Davies and Raleigh when traffic congestion is great on Westwood and Lougheed. It is often difficult to make a right-hand turn as cars are often backed up on Westwcod. When the new developemt is completed on the scutheast comer of Westwood and Lougheed, there will be a dedicated right-hand turn lane. This will alleviate the problem of short-cutting through Davies/Raleigh since traffic will flow better. At JW Anne T. Pynenburg 9 V/ Project Technician attachment
