6.27 Site Rehabilitation
Sliviculture in any cut block shail be planned prior to commencement of timber extraction and
will be required to be implernented within one year of completion of timber extraction.

6.28 Silviculture Contracts

Sliviculture contracts shall be awarded on a long-ferm basis to ensure continuity of stewardship
and local employment. Silviculture contracts shall be audited by Watershed Au

nel to insure that stewardship standards are met.

The present fractured manner of awarding aseries of unrelated contracts to prepare, plant, thin,

weed and otherwise steward cuf-over forests is inefficient, and tends to favour use of a

specialized and transient workforce. By awarding a contract that would allow one local

No use of herbicides or pesticides shall be allowed. Use of fertilizers shall be permitted only on
a strictly regulated basis.

There is enough scientific doubt over the long term impacts of herbicide and pesticide spraying
that this practice should be disallowed. In some cases the use of fertilizers which promote rapid
growth of ground stabilizing ground cover may be warranted,
