MEMORANDUM B. Kirk, December 16, 1982 City Administrator F FROM: »E. Peters., P. Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Applications for Revenue Sharing for 1983 - Public Works Committee - December ] 5th, 1982 RECOMMENDATIONS: That Council apply to the Department of Highways for Revenue Sharing on the following two projects for 1983. l. Reconstruction and widening of Kingsway from Wilson Avenue to Mary Hill Road. 2- Construction of a bridge across the Coquitlam River and extension of Wilson Avenue to connect to the bridge. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: It is necessary for the City to make application by January 3rd, 1983 in order to ensure that our projects are considered for Revenue Sharing. Although the City has not Fixed its own budget at this time, it would be possible to withdraw our application from the Department of Highways if at a later date it is found that we cannot proceed with our share of the work. . The widening of Kingsway is included as an item in the Provisional Budget with the City's share to be approximately $190,000. This item is included because of the poor condition of the road and because of the additional bus traffic which will be using this section of road once the Commuter Rail Station is operational. The Wilson Avenue extension and bridge is not included in the Provisional Budget and therefore funding would have to be arranged through reserves and insurance proceeds. It is considered essential that the Red Bridge be replaced by a new bridge and the preferred location for the City as well as for the Department of Highways is the location which hes been previously outlined to Council which is at the west end of Wilson Avenue. In our recent meeting with the Minister of Highways, we received the indication that the Minister would receive favourably a request for revenue sharing a7
