The Honourable Anita Hagen 23 June 1993 Page 2 It should be a requirement of the development approval process that school boards be requested to submit their comments on the impact of development on school space availability. The availability of school space must be considered in the same light as the availability of hard services such as sewer and water. In essence, if school sites are not available, then development should not be approved until arrangements are made for the provision of the necessary school space. The most effective mechanisms to achieve the co- ordination between growth and the provision of school space shouid be carefully selected. (e) Development cost charges imposed on developers other than school districts, should be expanded in scope to include a charge for school development. We hope that these comments will be of some assistance to you in your deliberations on the issues of planning, land acquisition and site development charges for schools.
