THE TERRACE Public Library’s pet (a tarantula named Maxine) decided to shed her skin over the Oct. 22- 23 weekend, Library staff say adults and children alike are fascinated by the process and many patrons have been coming in to take a look at her. Librarian Jess Dafoe said they have been waiting for two years for the event and on Sunday, Oct. 23 it seemed that something exciting might be happening. Most of the regular kitchen staff are back and getting busier after a slower summer. We had. our regular pancake breakfast the beginning of the month. There were some new faces, but still a very good meal. Our anniversary dinner was catered ' by the college and was very good. ; , We had a very successful garage sale. Plans are going ahead for the fall Bazaar and tea on the 29th of Our Hallow'een dinner will be the 27th at 6 PM. itis ’ We have chosen Betty Demitt as our senior of the month. . Betty has lived in Terrace for many years, raised her family here "and owned a corner grocery and laundromat on south Kalum., _ Since her retirement she has been a very active member of © ‘4, the community. As a member of the Happy Gang she has been © looking after the floor curling in the center. With senior games, over the years she won many medals for Horse shoes. Enjoys square dancing. Betty is a member of the senior advisory group to the local council, if anyone wants to bring a concern, especially for seniors to the attention of council - she is a good advocate. Betty enjoys travel and has taken several tours and cruises in the past. Almost single handedly for the last few years she has put together a float for the Happy Gang in the Riverboat Day’s This year she took second prize. Thank you for a job well pot luck meal.. At our last regular meeting before the summer break, two long time members of the Happy Gang were honoured with Lifetime membership & they were Ida McCann and Jim McKenzie. Congratulations to you both. September saw several members hospitalized, Vera McKenzie, Barbara Cullis, Florence Greaves, and several had cataract surgery among other things and | we wish you all a speedy recovery.
