That money would cover the dis- trict’s share of construction of Bailey St. from Cory to McConnell, upgrad- ing of Soucie Ave. between Marshall and Bailey, and setting aside money to eventually build a presently unde- veloped part of Marshall. Sewer and water lines, sidewalks and street lighting are also included. The province, which foots the bill for new schools, has indicated it doesn’t pay unless municipalities have formal development cost charge systems in place — something that doesn’t exist here. Trawin says the city’s charges for off-site costs amount to the same thing. And he’s backed it.up by iden- tifying many other schools where the province did pay such charges, “They’re getting the land almost for free and they're complaining ta us.about the off-site costs,” Trawin said, “I find that a little hard to swallow.” The Crown land, which runs from Mountainvista Drive north to Soucie, would be subdivided and the city would likely buy the southernmost third of the land for a future park. That’s the part with the most trees on it, making it the most expensive to buy from the Crown lands branch.
