BS - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, December 22, 1999 Christmas service lays a foundation for ministry revival A LOCAL native Pente- costal group hopes a Dec. 18 Christmas service will setve as a base for a re- vived ministry here. The service taok place at the Terrace Pentecostal Assembly and was hosted by a group which attends — the church. They’ve been holding house meetings at various places on week nights but recent connections with | groups elsewhere in the northwest has given them encouragement for some- thing larger, says Ron- Bartlett, one of the group’s organizers. “We've been invited to other places to share the gospel and have been so blessed we thought it was only appropriate we invite them back,” he said. “The Christmas cele- bration is the result of that invitation.” Bartlett and others have made journeys to Kitam- mat Village, the Nass Val- ley and to Metlakatla. Although the local group is Pentecostal, the groups it has visited repre- sent a broad spectrum of Christianity. It’s this spirit which once developed into regu- lar native church sessions in Terrace and which the local Pentecostals now hope to revive through last Saturday’s Christmas cele- bration. “There's no better time than to do it = at Christmas,” said Bartlett of the service. He also hopes to revive the name, Terrace Native Revival Centre, which ex- isted before. Bartlett likens the spirit at the services to the en- thusiastic Southern Baptist style of preaching and music. “The style of worship is basically the same. As a Christian’ person and as a native, I hunger for that kind of worship and praise.” Bartlett emphasized that a renewed native pro- gram of worship would not be restrictive. “If you like this style of worship, you’re invited,” he said. The revival centre of the past would draw more than 300 people to the Thornhill community Ron Bartlett “That’s something we'd like to happen again,” he said. centre at times, Bartlett continued.
