Following a decision by city council last week, local residents will only be permitted to park on Emerson between Lakelse Ave. and Park Ave. for Loss of members worries | ‘Legion ‘by Roy Greening In the. monthly magazine Legion the obituary columns are getting longer. In fact, the edition is taken up by many pages of veterans who have passed away. The name, _ rank and unit is listed besides the __ Legion branch to which that per- son belonged. Their ages range from the mid-sixties onward, which indicates that they pro- bably died of natural causes. It . .also indicates that the hundreds of branches across the country are being depleted of war veterans at a very rapid rate. This situation has long been anticipated, and changes to the Legion’s constitution are always ‘taking place to offset this natural turn of events. We now have Associate members, for ex- ample, who are related in some . way to a war veteran or to a rember who served in the arm- ed forces in peace time. The of- ficials of the Legion are now at- tempting to change the direction ' of its function, but at the same time making sure that the re- . maining veterans .and“in some cases, their needy families, are . taken care of. ’ The Legion is concentrating. more on service to the communi- ty, therefore each branch takes up a cause. Theirs could be one main cause or a series of causes which would benefit from Legion Participation in a, com- munity. Branch 13 is in the latter area, where we help in a monetary - way or by actually helping out in a physical way. Our branch wants to have a high profile in © the Terrace area, and we are working hard toward this. We are also working hard on im- _ proving our building so that it. ' . will be more attractive to the ; citizens. Comrade Bob Fisher, has provements. has to meet the deadline of November 5 to have everything, I ready for our gala re-opening celebration and recruiting drive on that date. We hope that many members and their guests will help us celebrate. So remember, Saturday, November 5 is our big night. The band Rockytops will be on hand to entertain you,. and there _ will be an M.C. and door prizes. Come and see our transforma- “tion of the building .and our a maximum of 15 minutes. In the Lakelse to Greig’ Ave. sec- tion, the west side of Emerson will remain as a no. parking © zone, but on the east side residents can park for as long as 30 minutes. According. to city alderman Bob Cooper, no one can be sure how these regulations will affect residents until they are im- . plemented. But he says he is sure Terrace Review — Wednesday.
