Legion active in
Diamond Jubilee.

The year 1987 has been a very
popular year for the Terrace
Legion since the Diamond
Jubilee was being emphasized
over the past 12 months.

Our 60th birthday was
celebrated in many ways. There
was a whole week set aside for
varied functions at the Legion.
Many members and visitors en-
joyed games of skill in an at-
mosphere of friendly competi-
tion. That week ended with a
delicious supper put on by the
Ladies’ Auxiliary of the branch.

On July 1, the branch teamed -

up with the Terrace Diamond
Jubilee committee and set up the
Legion’s National Display,
which was a first for the Nor-
thwest. Our colour party also
was on hand to promote Canada
Day at the same time at Heritage
Park. A committee got together
and had Diamond Jubilee hats
and shirts made for our branch.
These were a very popular item
as souvenirs.

Naturally, the Legion building
itself was decorated all year with
the Diamond Jubilee theme, as
the sellout crowd saw on July Ist
when the Ladies Auxiliary put

on a supper. Our float had a -

60th year theme .at Riverboat
Days Celebrations put on by the
Legion.

Many things that went on at .

the Legion this year always go
on every year, but this year there
was an atmosphere of celebra-
tion pervading throughout. The

annual Vimy Dinner was very:

citizens’ Dinner proved to be &

‘very popular again. Weekend

dances, dart competitions and. 5
many other activities too |

numerous to mention, were

always on the go. The legion &

Fashion Show, held‘on Oct. 25th
and the Scratch-a-Patch draw
contributed a large amount of

money to Meals-on-Wheels. The if

Diamond Jubilee Variety Con-
cert also donated its profits to
the Salvation Army Christmas
Kettle Fund.

The final fling in our 60th
year will be our Legion Colour

27th at the arena, where a
ceremony will take place for the
public, plus taking part in.a tor-
chlight march to City Hall. This

will indeed be a colourful ending.

Orca girls
take fifth

A two-win, one-loss record
gave Kitimat’s junior Orca girls
fifth place at the Kamloops
eight-team junior high school
girls basketball tournament on
the Dec. 12 weekend.

The Orcas. opened with a
68-42 loss to Westside. Then

they won two-in-a-row — 72-28 -

over Brocklehurst. and 42-39
over John Peterson.
