Waiver of water and sewer rates for handicapped
Council meeting - March 30/1992

RECOMMENDATION:

That City Council request an arnendment to section 202 of the Municipalities Enabling
and Validating Act which would permit Council to extend the Senior Citizen reduction in
water and sewer rates to the handicapped.

BACKGROUND & COMMENTS:

Council passed quite a similar recommendation in March 1992 (copy attached) and as yet
there has been no legislation which would permit the extension of the reduced rates to the
handicapped.

On talking with Municipal Affairs staff they suggest that we propose the specific
legislative change that would be required.

Attached are copies of section 202 of the Municipalities Enabling and Validating Act and
the memo from the Five Star Committee which Council approved last March.
