City Engineer Dear Sirs: Re: Kingsway Bridge Replacement Review of Tenders Tenders were received for the above contract and opened at 2:00 p.m. local time April 17, 1984 in the council chambers at City Hall. A summary of tenders received is provided in ‘fable 1. All tenders were checked arithmetically and the corrected totals are also provided in Table 1. The corrections do not signifi- cantly alter the order of the bids. One tender was received after the 2:00 p.m. closing time. Tech- nically, the tender should not have been opened. The tender was opened, however, and the price was greater than the lowest tender. In fairness to contractors meeting the specified deadline, we have not reported the results of the late tender. The lowest tender was received from MDM Enterprises Ltd. in the amount of $796,597.33. Our estimated cost for the work based on costs established at the study stage was $981,000. MDM Enterprises Ltd. is a union company formed approximately 2 to 3 years ago. One of the principals, Mr. Dave Martens, P.Eng. was formerly a project manager with Grimwood Construction. Ltd. Mr. Martens is well experienced. in bridge construction and MDM's tender indicates that he will be resident on site during the construction. MDM's recent experience in bridge construction includes two projects in Burnaby. The BNR Grade Separation work, «oe /2 = ..
